If you are talking about 1/72, yes they are.

Revell/Accurate/Imex, Italeri, Airfix, and A Call To Arms make them.

I think he probably means the old Spencer Smith 30mm plastics.

However, out of these sets only Airfix AWI would have been available in the 1970's.

The offer was valid only for the United States.
Both the American & English had 96 figures plus 6 cannon.
These included 18 cavalry and 12 Mohawk Indians.

Remember them well from my 'DC Comics' days in the sixties.

Thye were 1/72 in red and blue plastic. Iirc both sets had the same figures, just different colours.

I'm not sure if the figures are still avalable today, although lots of other 1/72 AWI are.

I inherited a set of these from my cousin, they are long lost to the nephews and dirt clod attacks at this point.

They were made by Helen of Toy (har har). The originals were semi-round,more or less 25mm, in hard plastic. Over-all they weren't bad, although as I kid I was certainly let down after being fired up by the ad! The main defect was grossly underscale cavalry, a flaw common to their other sets (Civil War and Ancient Romans).

In the late 60's the figures were changed to soft plastic round figures, and much for the worse. Whereas the prior figures had had crisp detail, the new figures were so bad as to be cartoonish—cheese wedge hats, Bozo-the-clown Mohawk heads, and on and on. I bought hundreds before I realized there were in fact other figures out there. Some 20 years ago I sold about 1000 to Wally Simon for $15, and they were too crude even for him to use!

Both varieties pop up regularly on eBay, with prices running the gamut from not bad at all to really gross. Amazingly enough, the crappy soft plastic figures do as well as the earlier figures, and I really cannot understand why.

I have a number of sets of the AWI (old version) and Romans, and thus far haven't brought myself to part with them. Damn nostalgia anyway!

SteveJ and Richard Humm

They are the ones thank you very much!

That's a shame about the quality. I'll think I use the other brands to make the armies up.

Thanks to all for your help!

The good old days, I remember buying 10 sets of these back in the 60's, 2000 figures!. They were horrible, but, at the time, I had a lot of fun with them.I believe my brother still has most of them.
