This time, the defenders are not Victorians or Moderns like in the previous thread: TMP link Instead, this is what I am thinking of for the defenders (near-future crew of about 20 or so): TMP link And instead of dinos, these are some of the animals to contend with: link link link link QUESTIONS: Would the defenses be physical barriers or force fields? picture picture By the way, who makes decent-looking force field posts? Thanks. CC link |
Skeptic | 15 Jun 2006 11:53 a.m. PST |
You might get some suitable pieces for force-field posts from GW's 40K MacCragge [sp.?] set. A fair number of 40K players probably have extras

Sorry I didn't see your original thread, have you got all your explorers yet? if not might I suggest my Dick garrison and Felicity figures for your party, the costumes are quite like the lost in space ones on the link, link also Steve barber do some very nice prehistoric beasts, link the GW shield post are very nice but as an alternative sone small buttons threaded over an upright piece of wire might work just as well. Cheers Roger. |

People are Ebaying the MacCragge components all the time. I'd use a longish roofing nail, paint wood bits from Hobby Lobby or such, sink them onto the nail (make sure to get bits with holes in them), and glue these around the perimeter. Paint as needed to rep field emitters in your game world. |

Farstar, Thanks for the suggestion!!! I always forget about Battlewagon. Unfortunately, they are out of stock: bwbits.com/product/3984 The plus side is that I now have an idea of what GW might actually call them: "Laser Fence Barricades". CC |

Cacique Caribe | 06 Jul 2006 12:21 p.m. PST |
Roberto, I guess that is why I initially thought of a force field that could be installed and removed with less effort and that would not leave too much of a footprint. CC |
Robin Bobcat | 08 Jul 2006 11:02 a.m. PST |
Force Field walls are easy to make. Get some thin-ish brass wire, something that won't bend easily, and thread some cheap beads on them. Round one at the tip, couple 'flanges' for insulators, just so it has that nice, retro 'electrical fence' look. |

This topic is dealt with in Michael Chrichton's book, Congo. The explorers are in the Congo (not surprisingly) and they need protection against large megafauna. Solution: Laser tripwires that activate large machine guns. There were some threads a while back about the new "area exclusion" systems that are being built to replace mine fields – they use rapid fire grenade launchers to fire at anything that trips the boundary sensors. |

<<"Here, piggie, piggie" were almost my last words! :) Seriously, here is the scoop: TMP link CC>> Welcome to MY CLUB!! Aggh!! It nearly *punched my ticket* – TWICE IN EIGHT DAYS!- and gave me a 54-day stint in the hospital thanks to the docs *missing* the *INTESTINAL BLIND SPOT.* Thank God my Better Half – Sandra- stayed up all night after a week of being told I was *dying* and did her own research on the disease, then asked the chief surgeon about said blindspot! Look on said Chief Surgeon's face: PRICELESS!! Eleventh hour surgery and a follow-up procedure a year later and I'm alive today to wish you a very speedy recovery! J Womack 94 | 09 Aug 2008 8:28 p.m. PST |
CC: Most animals will not try to get across a barrier that they can't see the other side of. You see this at zoos all the time, where there are gazelles and such that could easily clear the distance of the ditch's width, but because they can't see the other side of the barrier, they won't go over it without a REALLY good reason – like a hungry predator coming at them. |
