The indominable Tom Ballou of BattleGroup Boston (aka; BGB) has put together a nice primer on how to build your own NASCAR speedway for gaming NASCAR races in 1/64th scale. It is up at the BattleGroup Boston Website:

battlegroupboston.org

Under the heading Martinsville How-to. Great write-up. He also talks about the rules he uses and the modifications he had to make to fit the track. Great stuff, check it out!

Now that is one of the coolest things I've seen yet.

Thanks for the link!

The best part is the lights work, it folds up for easy transport and it's totally functional for racing games. it's nice to see a non-violent miniatures game too.

Non-violent? You don't watch much NASCAR I assume? :-)

NASCAR: Warm Beer, lound noises, scantily clad women and rednecks turning left. Woohoo! I love it!

I'm not a huge fan of watching cars go around in circles for three hrs but that IS an awesome track! Nice job.

There is a Formula 1, racing, board game, called, Formula De'. It involves hair-pin turns, gearing up/down for straightaways/corners, tire types/wear, body damage, weather, etc. Tom's article is intriguing me with the idea of doing it for Formula De'... Size is the scary part. His track looks as though his games may be based on similar track mechanics to Formula De'. This is a really neat piece. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

I'm with you Sgt. Slag.

I had the exact same thought. Of course, building Suzuka could be a challenge, what with the track crossing over itself and all...

I'd give Brooklands a go old chap ! Only problem would be keeping the cars from falling off the camber !

Thank you for you nice comments. For those that attend Historicon Bill Koff has a nice Montreal track for Formula De it used IRL indy cars from an old Micro Machine set. Thay are pretty reasonable sized. But his track was still 16 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Ahh to use those really nice 1/48th scale F1 cars I have been collecting.....
