Recently TMP member Le Breton was dawghoused for a 'personal attack' TMP link . I can't really see it as much of a personal attack myself, merely a request for another poster to back up a claim with a source. Whatever, in the history of the Napoleonic boards, this is very tame stuff. Has the Editor adopted a higher standard than previously on the Napoleonic boards, and can we expect dawhousings of those who are snarky or pointed or supercilious from this point onwards?

daler240D Supporting Member of TMP Inactive Member05 Feb 2018 8:34 a.m. PST

implying that any "standard" has ever existed would be a bit of a reach. I agree with you on this though, a ridiculous exercise of arbitrariness.

Rallynow Supporting Member of TMP05 Feb 2018 9:32 a.m. PST

Have to agree there was nothing there to warrant the doghouse.

Tango01 Supporting Member of TMP05 Feb 2018 9:53 a.m. PST

Much worse would be to send him to "Chat with Gwen"… (smile)

And in that our eastern Breton is one of the most useful, knowledgeable member of the board!
He, of al,l can challenge " opinions".
"To back up a claim with a source/ facts" is only an innaceptable atack in political or economy debates in the media. Not with History buffs nor academics ( unless also member of the U board).

deephorse05 Feb 2018 10:51 a.m. PST

I agree, in that I cannot see a personal attack in those comments.

And whilst I'm here I'd like to add this. Bill recently wrote

Some would be offended by anything we did. Having a talk with Gwen to help them understand what the problem is, is much better than putting people in the Dawghouse over and over and their behavior never changes.

But there seems to be no consistency in the application of this measure. It seems to me that the same people on the Napoleonic Boards are DH'd over and over again, whilst, for example, David Manley was sentenced to 'Gwen' for making one joke about a Ferranti electronic system.

So who is making the DH or Gwen punishment decision, Bill or Gwen herself?

When you are planning a scenario how realistic do you try to map the terrain? While sometimes I "invent" terrain every so often I have go back to Google or a high resolution map. I find I need to, otherwise you end up with terrain that is not even vaugely realistic, in which case the game however good the rules, loses credibility as cover is key in any game but more so from WW2 onwards. In particular its very easy in Norther Europe to underertimate the number of roads, hedges and ditches in olny a couple of ssuare kilometers. Wile most of us cannot build real hills even just reproducing crest lines gives far more detail than some would expect.

Apologies for the preceding post, which now appears under a separate heading, the BUG must have intervened whilst I was being told I was unable to Post.

With the M1A1 and the Apache, we are now officially in 1986 (or after). And here's an alternate M2 Bradley card with a nice Nato scheme:

I'm not criticizing Bill, but he's trying to keep a site running with tech that is no longer supported, it's probably only going to get worse.

David Manley09 Feb 2018 5:27 a.m. PST

Thats an excellent job on those old Airfix chaps. I have very fond memories of them, I picked up dozens of boxes when one of our local model shops went bust – as I recall most of the newbies ended up forming the core of my Prussian army (as my brother had already built up a large French army, which I nabbed when he went to Uni)

Col Piron09 Feb 2018 5:48 a.m. PST

So what's the surprise ? wink

I like it. No reading about the same thing over and over again. It's good for those of us who are Attention Span Challenged (hint: check your lead pile for self-diagnosis). Suggestion: How about a random post message board. Or is that the purpose of The Bug?

Well…not OUR's Wargames actually… (smile)

"Playing war games, whether from the couch with a video game or out in a field with a paintball gun, has been the subject of much debate over the years. Psychologists have sought to find out if playing way games can make people more violent. According to the American Psychological Association, a study in 2004 showed that such games can increase the aggression of children, but some of these negatives can be mitigated by parental influence…."
