Beatty's British BCF deploying with BCS ( Lion, Princess Royal, Queen Mary, Tiger, Indefatigable, New Zealand ) leading 5th BS ( Barham, Valiant, Warspite, Malaya ) .

Note the space they take up; this view is almost half of my 7' x 8' table. I calculate the main body of the British Grand Fleet ( 24 plus BBs; not yet painted ) will take up about 60" in 1:6000, not counting DDs and CL/CAs.

( This is my standard "remove them from the bases" routine, with my standard erasable chalk wakes ) .

Is photoshop work? This water trail?

Tell us more about the playing surface— it looks cool in an understated way.

The surface looks like real woodgrain. Plywood with blue translucent color (I don't know the technical term in English)?

The trails look like common chalkboard chalk.

But I'm just guessing here…

Very interesting and a good looking naval game. Could you describe your playing surface and how you handle chalking/rechalking the wakes from turn to turn?

Wow! That is cool. I'll have to give 1/6000 another thought.

The playing surface is just 2 side-by-side 7' x 4' plywood tables (I avoided showing the joint in the image). I am in the process of refinishing them, but the table in the image is painted with high-quality latex paint, over a properly cleaned and primed surface. I will refinish it to be smoother this summer (my power sander kept clogging with the old paint), and also paint its twin.

The wakes are chalk, per the link TMP link I am still experimenting with this idea, as I am worried about the chalk damaging the paint on the models. Normally I don't plan to let the models touch the chalk, although I did so for this photograph. The idea is to suggest a ship wake only, so the chalk can start just behind the ship, and doesn't have to be scale width or length. It looks better if the wake is roughly proportional to the ship's game speed, and shows recent turns, however. I have also found that although the damp sponge (see above link) quickly cleans up the last turn's chalk, one needs to wipe off the whole table between games, to avoid any residual build-up.

Anyone know how to insert a TMP link? This BB doesn't seem to work like it used to, or I am losing my memory… I tested the TMP link above on my browser, and it worked fine. When I test it in my post, however, I am taken to a comment box…

Another try at a TMP link: TMP link

I liked the use of the chalk on the hard game surface area. I keep contemplating making a nice simulated water based game board and this definitely shows merit for the ease of using chalk for wake. I like it!
