OK: so I am trying to decide if I like this game or not. The mini's are nice, relatively unbreakable, and seem cheap enough. But: the second and third releases are hard to track down
Does anyone have an opinion on the game Play? Am I better off just using the figs with GW's LoTR miniature Game? |

The game is fun but it is 'dead in the water' as far as further releases are concerned. The nice thing is you can use these figures to play either the Sabertooth game mechanics or GW's mechanics (You can't really use GW figs to play Sabertooth's game, since the STG relies on stats on the figures' bases to dictate the game). It is certainly a quicker and cheaper alternative to collecting, painting a GW LoTR force. I play both games and like them both, though GW's LotR is a better overall game and simpler to teach – and I think a bit more fun to play. It could be hard to find the STG figs, since the last release was some time ago, I believe and that expansion was well known to be the last release, so the production run may have been scaled back and/or snatched up by those few really into the game. |

I have loads of these minis and you pick them up dirt cheap on ebay. I would recommend the Middle Earth Rules found here: link Pete |

My buddies and I acquired large numbers of Sabretooth's figures as we liked both the figures and the rules, but we had difficulty putting on a large game; the last time we tried it, in fact, we wound up splitting it into a series of 1-on-1 encounters. |

I played it several times as a reviewer for a local shop. It has potential, but is pretty simplified. My 12 year old (at the time) played four or so games with me. His opinion was that it was too simple and more than a little boring. Now, this is a kid that has been exosed to all sorts of miniature gaming since he was born, so I value his opinion. I do see it being used at Cons, such as Little Wars and Rock Con. These are huge battles with many players, but they are all having a good time. I'm sure there are a multitude of house rules involved. A store in town has a ton of it at heavy discount. He seemed to think it waould become "collectible". Tonight,I was just looking at the Cave Troll set for $10, originally $25. USD |

Just want to second Pete's recommendation. I played him last week and had a great time while getting soundly beaten. Would have been a diferent game if the elves had turned up 3 turns earlier, I think they stopped to make up some songs about trees. |

I've got a bunch of these that are going up on eBay soon, too. It's a fun game, but it became the casualty of one too many games for me. Jeff |
