Can anyone help me. I've come into possession of some Napoleonic figures in white uniforms with light blue collars, cuffs, turnbacks, and lapels. They are based and look like a French 36 man unit. Everyone that has seen them thinks they are Italians, but I can't find any reference to those facing colours.Any ideas?

Westphaians?

aecurtis Fezian01 Apr 2006 11:08 a.m. PST

Or Kleve-Berg.

Or Neapolitans?

thanks for your suggestions, I think I'll go for Cleve-Berg

My first guess would be Westphanians but they were dark blue facings. Could these be 1806 French issue. The 41st, 42nd 43rd and 44th would have had sky-blue facings but they did not recieve the issue according to most sources. Only the 3rd, 13th, 14th, 15th 16th, 17th, 18yh, 21st, 32nd, 33rd, 46th, and 53rd might have worn them. And of all the regiments only the 41st would have had the cuff, Lapels, and collar Sky-blue.

Dear gunbuster,
if the Uniform is of the 1812 model (Bardin regulation)it is the 1st Regiment of the Neapolitan Army of King Murat.
Sky blue at lapels, collar, cuffs, flap cuffs, turnbacks and sky blue piping at false rear pockets and shoulder straps of centre companies.

I hope this can help.

Later Westpahlians were all dark lue facings, but earlier, the 3rd and 4th Regiments used light blue.

You should post an image so we can see what they look like!

If you use them as Neapolitan you have a good excuse for losing, and bigger bragging rights for winning. Or just don't label them and call them which ever is most convenient.

Neapolitan Army: at least they're flexible: fought against most nations, including the British in less well known conflicts in Italy.

Sky blue was Murat's colour; he was Grand Duke of Berg (near Bavaria) so your units (as Allen said) also fit Kleve-Berg from 1806. If you describe to us the shape of the cuffs, no doubt we could also tell which regiment and date of inception!

Do they have brass shako plates you can make out the shape of? That would tell you for sure.

Also fit Westfalia line, 3rd and 4th regiments wore light blue facings.

I've got a picture of theses figures but I'm not sure how to post them.

Didn't the Neopolitains have negro drummers? Or am I gertting confused??

Jemima Fawr10 Apr 2006 5:40 a.m. PST

I concur with Kleve-Berg – There is a link with Naples however, as Murat was Duke of Kleve-Berg before he moved on to being King of Naples.

You can also use these Berg troops, still in their original uniforms (though lacking their Napoleonic flags) as part of the Prussian Army of 1815, so they are rather handy.

That's the 28th & 29th Infantry Regiments (aka 3rd & 4th Westphalian) of the Royal Prussian Army.

I would never have considered these regiments.White uniforms amongst all that black, what a contrast. Thanks for that info

donlowry12 Apr 2006 3:02 p.m. PST

The 28th Prussian Rgt. and 2 battalions of the 29th Prussian Rgt. wore white French-style uniforms in 1815, as they had formerly been the Berg regiments. The 28th had light blue facings.

I thought these 28mm figures might be Redoubt, but I can't find anything similiar in there catalogue.
Such nice figures, I want to get some more.
