Now, if Mr Copplestone says he has this masters somewhere safe waiting to be finished why don't we all give him a push? Who would be interested in seeing these figures released?

ioannis26 Feb 2006 11:45 a.m. PST

But, Copplestone no longer works for Foundry! I believe it is up to Foundry to release these models…No?

ioannis26 Feb 2006 11:46 a.m. PST

Oh, yes…My 100% support to see this range expanded!

Phillius Sponsoring Member of TMP26 Feb 2006 11:50 a.m. PST

Well a vast majority of those figures never made it to casting machine. I would happily do my bit to get that range finished off.
Were masters of these figures actually made?

I guess the question is, who actually holds what masters at the moment. If it is Foundry, then Foundry are the ones to push to turn them into something real. If it is Mr Copplestone, then he is the one to push.

Being unable to afford a new range of figures this year, I am not going to should too loudly for this one in the short term. But I would certainly add my voice to a chorus of disgruntled renaissance gamers looking for a break.

If you dig through your old WI you will also find a list of the Macedonian Successors range sculpted by Steve Saleh that was to be released along with the Foundry Macedonian range. My guess is that the Successors and the rest of the Conquistadores were never finished and that there are no masters, and Foundry being Founfry (i.e., no sculpters), there never will be any expansion of either range.

As far as I know there is a problem abotu intellectual property rights.

The sculptors hold the intellectual property rights about the miniatures, but WF holds the marketing rights.

A game of zero-sum: none want to yield their rights, none can benefit from them.

Pity.

kingscarbine26 Feb 2006 12:48 p.m. PST

Mark Copplestone has the masters and I believe he owns the rights for these. At least he told me off record that he may get them done in the future, but no promises.

if he told you off the record – why are you putting that on the record?

Cacique Caribe26 Feb 2006 3:16 p.m. PST

Please, Mark, please!!!!

I would start with the really bad vacuums:

- Armed Sailors
- German Adventurers
- Portuguese Fanatics
- Portuguese Armed Slaves
- Cimaroon Characters
- Cimaroon Fighters
- Cimaroons Archers
- Indian Auxiliaries
- Conquistador Casualties
- Ragged Conquistadores

Dear Sir Able,

Although it was told off record I asked Mark if I could use the info to scan Practical Soldier members interest in the range. I just broadened it to TMP as I think the feedback would be greater and have a much better market research.

I would add Caribbean and Brazilian Indians and Mamelucos to the list.

I'm in. I'm dying for some good Jinetes

Lordofdane26 Feb 2006 4:33 p.m. PST

Well,
if Foundry's got the IP the only thing MC should do is add or remove a tiny detail to these models and he's free to release them :-) .
Sigh…Foundry…so much great stuff, great unfinished lines and no sculptor around :-(

Lordofdane26 Feb 2006 4:34 p.m. PST

Oh,
and I'm interested in ANY historical line Mr. Copplestone does :-)

Quebecnordiques26 Feb 2006 5:27 p.m. PST

C'mon Mark…you know you can.
We want them badly!

Doesn't Mark read this forum? I would…

Ioannis,

I don't think he has the time, but I'll email him the link.

Cheers,

I think that the conquistadors deal that foundry do at the moment is fabulous – I would love to see anything to go with it!

Cacique Caribe27 Feb 2006 5:57 a.m. PST

Krusty Kev,

BHSB1 ELDORADO SWASHBUCKLERS [60 models]

Very nice "Hoard" for the early 1500s. I ordered it a while back. If only they had gone and finished that range, as well as their Sea Dogs range (for the late 1500s).

Cacique Caribe27 Feb 2006 8:04 a.m. PST

Sorry. Should read "Horde".

You Fiendish Sock Puppet :-P

( I'll check it out immediately ) ;-)

Rich Knapton01 Mar 2006 6:33 p.m. PST

To get back in it again, I think he should do cross-over figures: figures that can be used on both sides of the Atlantic. The potential might be for greater sales. Then fill in the blanks.

Captains and Gentlemen
- Mounted Gentlemen
- Mounted Captains
- Pikemen 1
- Pikemen 2
- Men-at-Arms 1
- Men-at-Arms 2
- Jinetes 1
- Jinetes 2
- Light Gun with Soldier Crew
- German Adventurers (?)

I'm looking at the list and I see Portuguese Fanatics and Portuguese Armed Slaves. But where are the Portuguese? Unless that's them – Ragged Conquistadores. :))))

Rich

kingscarbine02 Mar 2006 1:44 a.m. PST

Yep Rich, that's them. I suggested these figures to Mark to depict the poor state of Portuguese soldiers during the African (sub-Sahara) campaigns. They can be used for any campaign though, either as "Tugas" or Spanish.

I think the main problem with sculpting specific Portuguese figures is lack of info. So the best option is to use figures from other ranges since many of the equipment was bought in Northern Europe and Spain. Even Ian Heath bypassed them in his Armies of 16th C. Europe. Maybe I could do it… Jesus! Not another project!!! The horror, the horror….

Henry Martini11 Oct 2015 6:56 p.m. PST

As this thread aligns with a budding interest of mine I thought I'd revive it to see if anyone knows whether there's any prospect of all those wasted master figures ever going into production.
