Which 28mm figures would you suggest?

Thanks.

Either movie style would be great. But, if you have a better suggestion(s), I am open to the idea. Thanks.

Copplestone Yeti? When they were first released I reviewed them as looking like George Pal Morlocks who'd spent a lot of time at the gym.

Chupacabras22 Feb 2006 4:12 a.m. PST

This guy seems a bit big, but otherwise perfect.

Eureka had old style morlocks but pulled them out of production.
That new hollywood rendition was rather atrocious, imho.

Chronofus22 Feb 2006 5:29 a.m. PST

Eureka pulled those from production? That's a shame.

Moavoamoatu22 Feb 2006 5:46 a.m. PST

You could try Pulp Figures neanderthals. You could swap heads with zombies heads may be.

Broadsword22 Feb 2006 7:20 a.m. PST

Not as pretty but the price is right and the service is great: Rock Man ( dar-rkv RKV-159 ) from Discount Hobby.

link

May have to cut and paste that URL.

They're from the old Archive Miniatures line. Unfortunately, Discount Hobby is selling off that entire line, with the above figures only available through the end of February. No pressure.

For the "new" Morlocks: get some GW Kroot cheap on eBay.

That movie was just on TCM Sunday morning! I hadn't seen it since it was in the theaters in the earlie 60's when I was about 6 or 7. The decomposing Morlock gave me nightmares for years.

shadow king22 Feb 2006 9:16 a.m. PST

I did a game and used the GW ghoul's they looked OK, you could sculpt hair on them but its ur choice. ( the road kill zombies could do too)

I don't know how you'd find them, but try the Heritage LoTR orcs. They're very small 25mm, but the look almost perfect.

I bought mine principally because they looked so much like the '60's movie Morlocks.

Shaggy, stooped, snaggle-toothed. You might have to clip off some of their horned helmets and swords, although IIRC some of them are bare-handed.

It's a darn enjoyable movie.

Some VERY old 70s-vintage Heritage fantasy figures — sold as trolls, cave trolls, ogres, that sort of thing — make great George Pal-style Morlocks, cause they're so crude and unarmored and misshapen. If you can find any.

Cacique Caribe22 Feb 2006 3:19 p.m. PST

Nic,

Is it there yet? Just kidding. The anticipation is going to kill me.

But seriously, is it there yet? :)

Good news on the Eureka ones. I figured they got pulled out with the other 'not-hollywood' lines, but fortunately not true.

Thinking about Morlocks, Ghouls and Orcs, they have more in common than they are different, depending on your point of view. All are degenerated, devolved humans (or technically elves, with orcs), living uderground etc. As a literary theme they maybe should be classed as related. At least they are similar ideas by different writers.

Steve Flanagan23 Feb 2006 7:24 a.m. PST

Orcs and Morlocks have a lot in common: each were their respective authors' versions of the British working classes.

But whereas Tolkien longed for the return of a bucolic pre-industrial society in which noble monarchs with superior breeding and sturdy yeomen hobbits would all play their parts, Wells had a pretty low opinion of the useless, helpless aristocracy (the Eloi) and thought the future would only prosper if it was in the hands of technical experts, represented by the time traveller (and, in Wells' own mind, by himself).

Ghouls, on the other hand, are folkloric, not the creation of a single author, and so harder to pin down.

Area2323 Feb 2006 8:21 a.m. PST

True, but the popular Fantasy version of the ghoul is more based on H. P. Lovecraft's, not on arabic folklore.

ruggeddude23 Feb 2006 5:13 p.m. PST

One of RAFMS Call Of Cthulhu packs has one or more, cant remember exactly, small somewhat ape man like figure in it. If you dont need too many that fig may work. If I remember correctly and has been a while since I read the story the Morloks were rather small in stature.

Cacique Caribe11 Jun 2006 9:31 p.m. PST

Decision made . . . I am definitely getting the original (1960) film on dvd:

Cacique Caribe30 Dec 2006 2:27 a.m. PST

Some of these Pulp Figures Neanderthals (particularly those crouched) would work, with a bit of greenstuff for hair over shoulders and upper arms . . .

Unless Bob has plans to release some Morlocks of his own. :)

Roberto Cofresi21 Jan 2007 3:18 p.m. PST

Is anyone planning to make these?

Cacique Caribe21 Jan 2007 3:26 p.m. PST

Nic at Eureka said a year ago to watch the site. It sounded then as if it was imminent.

I guess that, after deciding what figures, the next logical step is how to paint them:

Well, this just in from Nic (Eureka) . . .

All being well we will have them at HISTORICON and Claymore this year
for
those who are at the show, and then add them to the release schedule
which
will hopefully see them released towards October/November time.

All the best

Those look fantastic! I will order right away (though the last two links show a nearly identical figure).

Superhero Gameland has the best prices I can see anywhere, but I cannot see that first pack (02941) in their listings:

Snowcat24 Jan 2007 6:54 a.m. PST

The pack by Siens is the newest of the bunch (last year IIRC), which may explain its absence on Superhero Gameland. I included the more humanoid ones as potential leader types (less devolved)…

Commodore Wells24 Jan 2007 7:45 a.m. PST

Those Reaper ghouls are best candidates I've seen to date.

Whichever ones I end up using (and I may try with figures from a few ranges), they are definitely going to be unusual:

"One pose of that one will not do. 8-10 might do it for me."

If he decides to produce them, I'm sure that Nic will have more than one variant sculpted.

A few with improvised "industrial" weapons (such as metal pipes and rods) might provide additional flavor.

Any photos of those greens? How many figures are there?

There are 5. I'll put some pictures up later tonight(pacific time.)

Any plans for more variants?
