Mrs Gungnir hails from tha part of Florida, and so I came across this earlier. But then again, as a Dutchman, for us this is perhaps less of a shock, after all we were entangled in the same religious war for 80 years, and complete cities being massacrd was no exception.

Ft. Caroline national monument, here in Jacksonville, was at one time a French fort. Neat place. And of course, we're only about half an hour away from St. Augustine, which is a VERY neat place. Was not really aware of the Huguenot history though – thanks.

The Timucuans apparently even used "pikes" to resist Hernando de Soto and others.

Conan Doyle did a novel called THE REFUGEES where a bunch of Hugenots end up holed up in a fort fending off indians… didn't read it myself, my older sister did, she thought it quite cheesy
