Recently we had a very interesting discussion about Norman artillery.

This link was sent to me the other day, and I thought I would share.

globalspec.com/trebuchet

I hope it works? Enjoy.

Daffy Doug13 Dec 2005 12:14 p.m. PST

I don't think that is designed properly? IIRC,in the Real World, a projectile's mass would be anywhere from .5% to 2% of the counter weight mass. This test limits the missile mass to a minimum of 10% of the maximum counter weight mass. Consequently, I shot right off the right side of my screen!

First-time score 2082, not too good.

Goldwyrm13 Dec 2005 12:54 p.m. PST

Thanks for the link. I got a 2808 first time out. I learned a bit playing around with the variables in the distance section.

BobTYW13 Dec 2005 1:00 p.m. PST

First Time, score of 2262

nycjadie13 Dec 2005 1:32 p.m. PST

My best was 2600-ish. This kind of game is addicting.

Gaijin7913 Dec 2005 1:51 p.m. PST

1736 . . . I must have done something wrong. I didn't realize there was a time bonus until the end.

Nick Nascati13 Dec 2005 1:54 p.m. PST

Defintely addicting my best so far is 2742!

General Kirchner13 Dec 2005 2:02 p.m. PST

2804 1st time. thanks for the link!

Daffy Doug13 Dec 2005 2:12 p.m. PST

2920, after another five tries. Addicting for sure. An artilleryman I am not, at least not a virtual one.

I think there are tricks built within the construction options which can increase your score. The default trebuchet is a mediocre one and will never knock down the wall in one shot. I have scored direct bullseyes on the wall and it doesn't go down. But I don't want to spend any more time on this, so I will never design a wall-killer trebuchet!

Daffy Doug13 Dec 2005 2:15 p.m. PST

Oh yeah, btw, my last try I hit the bullseye each time on the wall, and it never fell down altogether; that's why I think you need to design a more efficient machine, or you will never get that wall down.

Goldwyrm13 Dec 2005 2:17 p.m. PST

OH my..were did my post go about scoring 2924 and giving up.. I've been impersonated!! And in the worst way imaginable!!!!!!!!

Daffy Doug13 Dec 2005 2:17 p.m. PST

Alright, who's in charge here?! Goldwyrm's post should have gone to CA, but the sound of it. I had heard a couple days ago, that the posts on TMP were whacked and ending up in the wrong places. This is the first one I have seen with my own eyes.

Daffy Doug13 Dec 2005 2:18 p.m. PST

Impersonated? You mean you didn't write that? Something really smells, and I am nowhere Denmark

Goldwyrm13 Dec 2005 2:21 p.m. PST

I hit the complaint button on myself.

Daffy Doug13 Dec 2005 2:24 p.m. PST

I put up a post on the "TMP board." There is a thread about messed up posts there that OFM started yesterday. Bill is working on it, but as of yesterday, he didn't know where the bug was.

nycjadie13 Dec 2005 2:34 p.m. PST

I just painted up a trebuchet like this last week. 1980's Citadel.

Gaijin7913 Dec 2005 3:04 p.m. PST

2061 on my second go. How do you get to 2800?

Inari713 Dec 2005 3:05 p.m. PST

There was a web site that made wooden terbuchets and a wall of blocks that made a game of it. I might have a look on the internet for it……………Doug

Dervel Fezian13 Dec 2005 3:10 p.m. PST

Nice, that is not my post, and just a minute ago Inari7's post shown here showed up as mine on another discussion!

Dervel Fezian13 Dec 2005 3:11 p.m. PST

Me smell Hacker?

nycjadie13 Dec 2005 3:48 p.m. PST

My family was wierd. We took out a few trees in our backyard. My Dad decided we should build a trebuchet with them. It turned out to be about 12' tall. We couldn't get a heavy enough counterbalance and we had lousy rope. But we did get enough oomph to throw a melon at the church behind our house. Great fun when you're a kid.

autos da fe13 Dec 2005 4:00 p.m. PST

2782 on first try. Not the best of on this board, not the worst.

This reminds me- anyone ever try to get their 28mm siege equiptment to actually work. I was thinking of modifying some Old Glory and Gripping Beast piece, but wondered if it would be more time efficient to just start from scratch?

nycjadie13 Dec 2005 4:04 p.m. PST

3509 my high score. I think I have wasted enough time now.

Dervel Fezian13 Dec 2005 4:33 p.m. PST

Autos da fe,
try this posting;
TMP link

This started it,
make sure you take a look at Mick in Switzerland's links!

autos da fe13 Dec 2005 5:45 p.m. PST

Thanks Dervel. Terrific.

Rattlehead13 Dec 2005 6:44 p.m. PST

2411 first try score… not bad, not great.

Fun link! Thanks!

Patules14 Dec 2005 3:53 a.m. PST

"My take on Hastings is, that Harold gave good tactical advice to his wing commanders (possibly his less level-headed brothers), and they threw Harold's cautions to the wind. Harold already received advice to not offer battle too soon, and he ignored it; so your advice on that score would fall on deaf ears. (Now, back to the topic of the thread….)"

Dervel, Humphrey Goldenbollocks wrote this in the Medieval time travel thread. So the 'Hacker' isn't writing the wayward posts.

Dervel Fezian14 Dec 2005 6:20 a.m. PST

Yes, the most of wayward posts are from this sight, but switched around? I found a couple of others like that.

Question is why? I understand that the site manager is attempting to clear it up. It is an excellent forum, and I would hate the thought of anyone intentionally messing with it.

Thanks Patules.

Also, glad everyone is enjoying the Trebuchet link. LOL, I should have known it would turn into some kind of contest :}

Regrebnelle14 Dec 2005 4:26 p.m. PST

2169 first try. Thanks for the link!

Starbuck09 Jun 2006 3:14 p.m. PST

Great game…first try was 2214…gotta go and try it again…

Mister Rab02 Nov 2007 9:02 a.m. PST

2078 first go

Mister Rab02 Nov 2007 9:06 a.m. PST

2447 – right, now must go home!

imrael02 Nov 2007 9:10 a.m. PST

2265 first go.

Mister Rab02 Nov 2007 9:16 a.m. PST

3579. Now I am really going home

(ps – set projectile to 31, counterweight to 100 and height to 100 to score 644 on distance)

Daffy Doug02 Nov 2007 9:49 a.m. PST

TMP historical trivia: this was started back when the BUG was first manifesting! =O

RIP, BUG….

BobTYW02 Nov 2007 11:23 a.m. PST

2749 second time (beat my first attempt)

Captain Crunch02 Nov 2007 5:16 p.m. PST

2637 on my 2nd attempt. This is kinda fun. Too bad rotten disease-ridden carcasses aren't an ammo option.
