So. Do you still support Rings of Power?

Anathema! Triple cursed Anathema!
I gave up supporting Amazon years ago.

Damn their blasphemous desecration of Tolkien!

I hated it from the get go. The only people I know who like it were people who never read the books. Everyone that I know who was a fan of the books hates it to its core.

Stryderg31 Jul 2026 9:11 p.m. PST

I wasn't created for fans of the books.

Indeed. It was created with contempt for the fans, and with contempt for Tolkien in particular.

I could rewrite RoP and make it better:

The Eye of Sauron notices three figures step out from the shadows. "Who dares disturb me?" he demands.

One of the figures announces "I'm Moe, this is Larry, and this is Curly!
"Hiya! nyuk nyuk nyuk!" says Curly

Sauron, angrily "Begone!"

Moe: "Oh, being rude are we?" Moe pokes the Eye of Sauron with his fingers.

Sauron blinks and screams…

Never have never will.
The only parts I have watched were The Drinkers reviews.

I've rather enjoyed RoP, particularly the last series. And I've read all the books.

The first series was a bit slow, and Elronds hair… the real hero of the piece is of course Sauron.

Sorry, tried it, hated it. Won't go back. I have a friend who is an ardent Tolkien Lord of the Rings guy and very socially conservative. He watches it and likes it. Go figure.

Corporate execs don't care. They buy "intellectual properties" because they think they can squeeze money out of them--and if they can't at least the competition won't be able to either.

At the producer/director/screenwriter level, they're motivated by the same impulse which causes people to vandalize paintings or statuary. It's fitting that Tolkien himself already nailed them--evil, and incapable of acts of creation.

The depressing thing to me is that the percentage of decent adaptations or pastiche seems to be declining. It feels a lot worse than just post-Endgame Marvel. But that may be an age effect. Not sure how you'd measure it objectively.

Orcs are pure evil.

The one thing about ROP that I HATED most was the orc with mother and child begging for peace. After that, the only reasonable scene would have been a head chop and, as in the LOTR movie, the quote "Looks like meat is back on the menu boys"!

I've enjoyed it for the "creation" of Gandalf. Generally, any fantasy will get my attention.

CBPIII03 Aug 2026 3:12 p.m. PST

It's fine, and I've read the books. Is it all I had hoped for? No, but it's been a nice bit of entertainment with some inspirations for painting and terrain builds.
