This can apply to either 1st or 2nd Editions. And to any of the current supplements.

So what do you like most about it?

TimePortal15 Nov 2025 10:20 p.m. PST

I have two copies in stock but I have not seen it played

Small figure count, easy to pick up, small playing area, flexible enough to use the engine earlier than BW, good support. I just like it. I have v1.

Trick question, my most and least liked points go hand in hand.

I like that it is a very tactically challenging game. The possibilities of groups taking reactions and an extra action during a turn add a lot of nuance.

I also find it quite frustrating because of that — the rules are rather complex with with extra layers of exceptions and conditionals, use of keywords is not very tight, and the layout of the book has related complexities strewn all over the place. But the game is solid enough that we keep hammering away at it.

When it makes it as a Poll, I hope it has a "never played it" option.

I don't know of the game, but I know of the actual war. Seems to me you can play the battles of it with a variety of systems. A little clarity of poll title/question might be helpful.

The rules are distributed by Wargames Atlantic.
My store copies are 2 edition. Though some stores have 1st

I agree with John the OFM

Well I obviously over estimated the popularity of this Game! I'll make sure it never runs as a poll.

I think the authors did a lot of the British show circuit which probably helped it over there, not so much your side of the pond….

Is it another skirmish game pretending to do battles?

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP18 Nov 2025 6:33 p.m. PST

It's a skirmish game with small units.

Already have Lion Rampant.

korsun0, yes they do promote it heavily on the circuit and with their own tournament events. The Facebook group for the game is up to 17.3k members now, lots of active posters daily.

Don't recall seeing any event listings go by that are outside of Blighty though.

Pretty similar international gulf as Nevermind The Billhooks. Billhooks FB group is at 6.5k members; but The Barons' War has a much lower figure count entry point which probably accounts for the larger attraction.

But oh, the wonders of the Nottingham Lead Belt way of life!
