Anyone who is anxious about the health of our hobby in the UK should get themselves along to the Reading Wargamers' Show at Farnborough this weekend. Evidence from Saturday morning suggests wargaming, at least in the South of England, is in very rude health. The venue, on the edge of the airfield, is great and there's a very vibrant trade presence. As always with the Reading club, what most impresses is the sheer number of active, enthusiastic gamers and the overall quality of their games. Even in the smallest of contests the quality of figures and terrain was invariably high. Yes, it's a predominantly white, middle-aged, male hobby. So what? It's invigorating to be in the presence of so much enthusiasm and quite daunting to see the superb level of painting and modelling that exists amongst our colleagues. Thanks to WAR for, as always, putting on a great show.

I went for the first time last year and attended both days.Apparently, I was informed, Saturday is always the busier day, and so it proved last year as Sunday was noticeably quieter. It was however,an extremely good show nevertheless and well worth the trip, especially as I made a decent amount of money selling on the huge B&B.

I've followed Warfare on its travels from the enforced, though frankly long overdue, move from the Riverside, to the thankfully brief visit to Ascot Racecourse. Then on to all the shows at Farnborough and again yesterday.

The latter has proved to be an inspired choice. Great venue with plenty of parking. This years alterations to which proved a real success.

Well run by enthusiastic and friendly Club members and attended by equally enthusiastic and friendly gamers. Not to mention those putting on games and a good selection of Traders.

All of which has proved a major tonic after my calling time on the East London Zeppelin Hanger after Salute 50, which I miss like a bad dose of Flu!

Big Shout Out to all the Organisers and long may they flourish!
