The memoirs of the fighter pilots are fascinating. Eddie Rickenbacker's Fighting the Flying Circus, Richtofen's The Flying Circus, James McCudden's Flying Fury, Cecil Lewis' Sagitarius Rising and Winged Warfare by Billy Bishop are some great ones to start with. |

The Bandy Papers by Canadian Donald Jack, is a series of novels starting with Three Cheers for Me. They are a relatively painless introduction to WWI air combat. You might consider reading some of them as a break from serious air combat history. So far as I can tell, they are well researched and sometimes provide easily understandable explanations for technical information. Grelber |
