All,

Okay, game 3 and we're cooking right along; the Lieutenant is still out, recuperating from his wounds, and 1st Squad Leader, Sgt Caje, is now bumped up from a 'Decent' leader to a 'Good' leader, although Kirby is still a 'Poor' leader (there just hasn't been any opportunity to remedy that), and the platoon hasn't received any replacements, so all three rifle squads are down a rifle team!

SSgt Saunders returned from a meeting with the Skipper and gathered the squad leaders to brief them: "Good news, the Old Man is still cutting us some slack with the Lieutenant out and being shorthanded, he cut us an easy one. Battalion's up against a river and the Krauts have blown the bridge, but S-2 figures there must be a ford nearby that can handle our vehicles, so we're gonna go babysit some engineers while they snoop around the river to find a spot where the tanks can cross."

The Engineers move get to work(right, on river, with bazooka team and SSgt Saunders below them) as 3rd Squad moves left (left center, with 1st Squad above them and 2nd Squad in the buildings at left).

The Germans push forward and a ferocious firefight breaks out amongst the ruins of a quaint French village!

And we have our first close combat in three games!

Still working the kinks out of the rules, but explain a bit more about how the reaction system works in the post, so if you're interested please check it out (as well as to see how the fight went). A few people have asked, and I'm happy to help, so once I've got the rules the way I want them I'll share them with everyone that would like to see them. Here's the link to the batrep:

Oh, and I'm working on the next batrep.

I'd like to see them Jack, and give you some feedback if you're interested, but not until December I'm afraid.

Jack, rocking battle! I love the "screen" scenario because it is different and anything can happen as you just proved.
Looks like the rules are working well.
I really like the vignette of the German medics.
Can't wait to see what the NPC wants? Who is it?

PS. If you really want to make sure the opfor don't spring up on you you will need less covering terrain on the board. Otherwise the germans are sneaky. : )

Javier – Certainly, no problem.

Joe – Thanks man, and yeah, the rules are doing great, I might be on to something here ;) And, of course, Platoon Forward has given three great scenarios so far, everything's humming right along, having a great time. Almost ready to work up some new platoons and characters, but that means I need to quit playing for a bit and do some painting…

"If you really want to make sure the opfor don't spring up on you you will need less covering terrain on the board."
Well, certainly. I'd actually considered having the blinds move up into LOS, but I held fast. So far with these games I've basically laid out the blinds where it's 50-50 close and far, but so far the dice have always chosen close (for the patrols in games 1 and 3 and the reinforcements in game 2), so no biggie, just luck of the draw.

"Can't wait to see what the NPC wants? Who is it?"
It's a huffy Captain from the Divisional staff, and it's a doozy ;) It's funny how two of my four post-game events were NPCs asking for a favor/wanting to tag along.

Anyway, lots of fun, working on the 4th batrep, not sure if I can play this weekend, baseball is over but I have a bunch of family stuff going on…

V/R,
Jack

Those huffy staff officers. Sounds like it will add to the story; can't wait.
I'm impressed you can do 4 battles with the same outfit. As you know I keep wandering. Objectively I want to go back to Stalingrad or use my newly acquired VABs so what did I play? Soviets in Afghanistan!?! Eventually I will circle back.
Your rules do sound like a sweet spot. Have fun with the family!

"Those huffy staff officers."
Aren't they all? ;)

4 battles!!?? Any REAL campaigner should be able to rip off 6 to 8 in a row, easy, you just lack discipline ;) But I'm definitely wanting to move more in your direction, following more units/characters through different theaters/eras.

Soviets in Afghanistan, eh? Very interesting. I did a couple of those once, skirmish fights with individually based 6mm troops! Can't wait to see yours!

V/R,
Jack
