Here's some 1/600th scale WWII work I'm readying in anticipation of LWTV's coming Operation Winter Storm initiative – TMP link
These are Oddzial Osmy '3mm' minis purchased through Pico Armor miniatures here in the Midwest, many of which now come 3D printed (yep, even their tiny little gun barrels print-render AOK). So far based (and then I start painting up) a German Tank Battalion on these platoon stands – and what's shown here as unmounted bases are going to be the beginnings of the Soviet 3-tank stands for T-34s, T-70s. Priming of the pump for a new winter project! |

Your usual excellent work, FlyXwire. Do the two sizes of hexes represent platoons and companies? |

Hi Robert – TY, and yes they do (as platoons/sections). HQs/specialist sections on the smallest stands, and then small platoons on medium-size bases (3-tank platoons, SMG squads, ATG sections, etc.), and larger-size platoons on the 'big' stands. They all 'combine' to create company-level formations(+)….and they can combine in cross-attachment also, to form mission-based Teams, Gruppen (upper right corner – a small Panzer/PzGren. team). |

"SMG squads" meaning small-size SMG Platoon (like Soviet tank rider platoons each, drawn from the Tank Brigade's SMG Company). |

Really nice. Your work really shows the utility of 3mm. If I was doing my armies for Rommel today, I'd go with 1/600. |

Thank you. I look forward to learning what rules are used. I'm trying to do something similar with 2mm bases, either company/platoon or battalion/company, and I really hate reinventing the wheel. |

Thanks also McKinstry! They're sort of little 3D-TOE charts, meant to look in motion. :))) Robert, feels like sometimes we're the only ones left pushing the wheel, but really hoping the LWTV effort provides us all a little kick in the pants. In the meantime -

Nice article! I like to think of it as wisdome coming with age, as we come to value storage and portability, admire regiments which look like regiments instead of color guards, and admit that renting a gym to refight Borodino isn't practical on a regular basis. But I also remember Lazarus Long's observation that "it's amazing how much mature wisdom resembles being too tired." Heinlein may have been on to something. |

Thank you Dal Gavan! Liken' this Robert - But I also remember Lazarus Long's observation that "it's amazing how much mature wisdom resembles being too tired." Or maybe becoming good judges of what is that cost/risk ratio in one's endeavors (and as we've made it this far!)? :) |

That's what I tell myself, FlyXwire--but I keep in mind the possibility that I'm not an unbiased observer. |
