Recently been using my Volksgrenadiers from AB Figures to play ‘A Green and Brown Hell' a chain of command campaign set in the Hurtgen Forest. A nice campaign by David Hiscock from a recent Lard Magazine. The German force is brittle and I struggled against the Americans in the early stages, but the last few games swung the balance around, unfortunately, not enough to hold off the Americans. The figures from AB really look the part. They do a mix of uniforms, including greatcoats and reversible camouflage. I've seen plenty of pictures of mixed clothing in the same unit, so it adds to the slightly ad hoc uniform look for the late war period. I acquired them originally to play the Bloody Bucket campaign, so it's been great to have them back on the table. A longer blog post with many more pictures is here Volksgrenadiers

Those really look great, Tactical Painter! I really love the attention to the small details on your figures. |

I painted six figures as tank crew today, all AB and what castings they are. My first effort at anything not 200 years old in over six months. The highlighting and cammo work on these Volksgrenadiers is terrific and the basing really adds to them. |

Those irregularly shaped bases on the lying down figures are an interesting touch. Personally I prefer to stick figures on regularly shaped (round, oval or rectangular) bases, but I can see certain beauty also in those irregularly shaped bases. |

I wrote a longer blog post on the journey that took me to that basing style. Originally, I had stuck quite slavishly to regular base sizes, but for various reasons – practical and aesthetic – I made the change. You can find that post here: Some Thoughts on Basing and Rebasing

Personally, I never saw a need to base figures that would stay put without one. |

I'm with you Don but I am a gamer who paints. TP is an artist who games . Part of it is where you want to put your limited free time and part of it is skill. You certainly can't argue with the results! Bravo! |
