I have some unit and rank decals for 28mm minis, but have never applied any. After painting, I plan on lightly spraying them with a matte polyurethane finish – but am unsure if this will dissolve the decals. QUESTION: Is it best to apply the decals and THEN spray the finish? Or should I spray the finish and apply the decals afterwards? Any other suggestions/advice is always appreciated. |

Apply decals with micro set and micro sol, gloss varnish then matte varnish = bullet proof. |

I always apply my decals then spray with matte varnish. Never had a problem. |

I always apply decal – paint on some gloss varnish over the decal and then matt varnish the model. |

I second the recommendation for micro set and sol and what everyone else has said about decals and then varnish. |

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that you need a glossy surface for the decals to adhere properly. A matte surface will lead to "silvering"- where air gets between the surface and the decal:
From davesmodelworkshop.com. After applying the Micro Sol let the decal dry off for a couple of hours and then gently wipe off the Micro Sol residue, with a damp cotton bud, before spraying. |

+1 Dal I gloss coat then apply decals (sometimes using micro products and sometimes other brands). Then I give it a matt finish afterwards. |
