The term "Ancients" covers a broad swath of history and so various topics get lost in this Bucket. My sense is that the Roman Era constitutes a significant portion of this board's topics. I would like to propose that the Roman Empire or The Roman Era have its own message board within the general Ancients boards. Rather than having to search through the boards to pick out Roman topics, it would be so much easier for them to be a distinct Roman board. Other historical periods have subsets (see the 18th Century/Horse and Musket boards). What do you think? |

I empathize but this way lies madness. Way too many things in ancients could be put forward for their own board. Thanks. John |

An increase in the number of boards is not a good approach for a website that is hemorrhaging users. There may already be more boards than posters. It's already hard to find conversations. |

Sure. Why not? Personally, I always root AGAINST the Romans. (I blame the nuns…) But I can be anti-Roman on a Roman Empire Board. |

Just "Empire" or the Republic and even the kingdom, as well? Grelber |

I would rather no new board. martin |

I don't care, I never look at the boards anyway as there are far too many, just the front page. Why single out the Roman Empire though, the Republic had a lot more going on and Tbh is far more interesting to wargame than just bashing barbarians in Germania. |

What next, separate the Napoleonic Wars out of the Napoleonics boards? There's too many boards already, and I don't see a Roman Empire board achieving anything but making me miss interesting threads because they don't get crossposted to the main Ancients boards. |

Ancients could be broken up into Biblical, Hellenistic and Roman, but then the Chinese, Koreans, Africans and Japanese etc would be left out, I think Ancients is a good catch all. |

No. There are not that many "Ancients" discussion posts per month to begin with, and Rome does not make up the majority of posts. Another board just continues to dilute an already small group. |

Since the current 1st page of Ancients runs from 27 November to 10 April, I see no need to subdivide the board. It's plenty easy to scroll through for topics as it is. |

I would include early Republican Rome and Roman Empire on the board, maybe call it Roman Era or Age of Rome. Look at all of the subsidiary message boards in 18th and 19th Century categories.

This discussion arises every time a new Board is proposed. The immediate outcome from a new Board is a large increase in topics within that interest. "Everyone" was opposed to a Flames of War Board. And then, once it was instituted, we got a ton of threads about FoW. Go figure. 🤷 Note that the wording of the Poll is "Would you support a Rome Board?" A majority is not required. Simply ~30 positives. This is NOT Anti-democratic. It's merely gauging support. Look at all the myriad SYW and Napoleonic Boards. Do you think a majority voted them in? "Support" can be both starting new threads, reading them, answering them, etc. I would "support" a Rome Board because I dislike Rome. 😄 |

The cat is already out of the bag regarding multiple Boards. I'll freely admit that there are many I don't bother with. Like Napoleonics. I also have the full Front Page visible. I do not have only specific Boards open. To me, they're useful to track past threads that have fallen off. Like going back to refresh my memory on Apaches etc. |

Yes. I think it makes sense. Probably should include the Republic period as well. |

More boards, lovely. Ah, memories. 😄 Like i said above. We already have gazillions of Boards. What's one more? TMP isn't exactly the Titanic, and can't take on one more gallon. 🤷 I'll sign as one of the 25 or 30 (I can't remember the exact number) who would "support" a Roman Board. |

No Roman board. I propose the very mention of "Romans" be banned & anyone referring to them should be dawghoused!!!! (Do I sound like someone who routinely gets smashed by opponents with Roman armies?) |
Der Alte Fritz | 10 Apr 2025 11:23 p.m. PST |
Well, I'm kind of partial to the Carthaginians. I guess that I like the underdog. |

Half of the ancients board IS Roman stuff. Plus people would still cross post Roman stuff to the ancient board. |
John the OFM | 11 Apr 2025 8:12 p.m. PST |
Exactly. Cross posting is the answer to fears. I said above that new Boards always encourage more threads. |
The Last Conformist | 13 Apr 2025 5:24 a.m. PST |
Crossposting is the answer to the fear that people won't crosspost? |
John the OFM | 13 Apr 2025 7:23 a.m. PST |
Exactly! As Leonidas shouted to the Persian envoy before he kicked him down into the pit, "THIS IS TMP!!!" |
