I have 15mm TSATF French Foreign Legion v. Arabs.

The 15mm are definitely too small to push around individually.

I'm considering getting some sabot bases and mounting them all on pennies that fit into the sabots. Obviously my Arabs would need "irregular" shaped bases, and my French "regular" shaped ones.

Anyone have any thoughts on if that is a good or bad idea?

Also, who might sell them [besides Litko] and how much should I be willing to pay for them?

Thanks!

Not sure how big a penny is.

Warbases makes various sizes. I've used them several times.I think their prices are fair. YMMV.

If you have access to a drill press, they are easy to make. You will need a Fostners bit which drills a flat bottom hole. I purchase 1/4" baltic birch plywood for mine, but you could use just about anything of the desired thickness. Set the depth stop on the drill press and drill in whatever pattern suits. Irregular cut-out sabots work fine for tribal units Rectangles for regular forces. A table saw and a band saw help, but then again I have a woodworking shop. There might be a DIY center near you that you can join to do such projects

I would venture to guess that a laser cutter might be in order. Do you have any experience with that?

I mount my 15mm on washers. Then I can make movement trays out of sheet magnet. I cut a piece of magnet to the size I need and spray paint green. Then I trace the washers (I use 3/4", basically the same size as a penny) with a sharpie. I flock around the washers with the usual sand, foliage and static grass. You can make the British more regular in lines, and tribals in loose mobs. Cheap and easy.

For sheet magnet I buy the kind that has vinyl on the back as it slides across the table more easily. I use a ton of it so buy it buy the roll from Magnet King:

P.S.

You could also make the trays out of card stock or mounting board. If you do the flocking, just make little rings of sand to keep the minis from sliding.
