…Little John slug it out watched by Marian. A quick paint trial to try and match that glossy old school style that always suited these Hinchliffe / Calder Craft figures. link |

Beautifully done! The old-style figures will always have a certain charm to them. |

I think the charm is only for those that remember when these were the best that were around. |

Like them – look good enough to play with! |

They will get played with when I've painted more and got some suitable rules; do you know of any? |

It would seem only right and proper to at least try the Calder Craft Robin Hood rules! There's at least one copy online: link |

@20thmaine – thanks for that, I shall certainly take a good look at them. |

Another set that would work quite well are the GW LOTR Skirmish game rules – just leave out the monsters and the magic, all the human troop types have an equivalent in the game. Even most of the heroes – Robin would map quite well onto Aragorn the Ranger, others could have generic leader statistics. |

You did a great job painting the figures. I still have a number of Hinchliffe peasants of various types I painted years ago. |

@Gray Bear, thanks but I did quite a bit of repainting as I was initially too timid with my shading, the old school style requires you to be quite bold both in terms of tone contrast and brush strokes. I've still got some room for improvement. |
