… New Zealand "…A search of PapersPast found death notices for thirteen purported veterans, seven from the United Kingdom, one Frenchman and one Austrian. Two of the first group were also veterans of Wellington's Peninsula Campaign (1807-1814). They appear here ordered by their year of death. Almost every surviving British soldier who fought at the ‘precursor' maneuvering battles of Ligny and Quatre Bras on 16 June 1815, or the Battle of Waterloo two days later, received England's first campaign medal, the Waterloo Medal. With more than 39,000 medals awarded, the medal roll is in essence a roll call of Wellington's Army…" Main page
