"The scenario was as follows: a force under the command of Colipay, one of the chieftains of the powerful Yanquetruz, at the head of a force of 400 lances but mostly made up of rabble, that is, very young or old warriors, returned to their homes with a herd of cattle and many captives who had to walk alongside the herd. The objective was to rescue the captives and as many cattle as possible.
Nearby were the fearsome lances of Yanquetruz and another large contingent under the command of Manuel Baigorria, a Unitarian who had joined the ranks of the Pampas after Yanquetruz broke the pact with the Confederation. In total, 800 lances brandished by fierce warriors
Four squadrons went out in pursuit of the Indians who had raided, burning ranches, stealing chinas and property.
These were the line squadrons of the field regiments No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6. (It should be noted that only the figures of No. 3 and No. 4 wore the uniform used in the campaign, the other two are figures with generic uniforms, widely used at the time, but not corresponding to No. 5 and No. 6.)…"
