Some odd comments on the two sites. In "Three still afloat" they include HMS Victory, surely in dry dock, and another photo is captioned for its role as a training ship. At a glance two of the four leaving on a gangway are Kriegsmarine POWs! A ship that has been effectively a hulk for all of its service does lack the glamour of a ship that has, or had masts, and saw sea service. But good luck to them and I hope it does well. Now how did I get to the top and push down 79thPA who posted this?? Apologies but non est mea culpa. |

Depends on how you look at it. 4-5 pounds per resident of Dundee would do it. Last I heard, they were still looking at raising $20 USD million to drydock USS Olympia--which, admitedly, would be about 3 bucks each for the metro region. |

They still need to raise a lot of money though. link link |

@deadhead, that's a new special feature that Bill can't get corrected yet. |

gbowen you are forgetting the USS Constitution. Of the three the only one capable of sailing. |

When discussing old ships that are still…., it's worth remembering that there's an element of "Triggers broom" with wooden ships. For those in the US you can Google it if you don't understand. |

The same with wooden houses/structures. |

Mark J Wilson – very true – You hit the "replacement" nail on the head! |

The term I read in the US is "grandfather's axe." Of course, I'm 72. I've been replaced several times over, but I still like to think of myself as me. |
