Great report and Warmaster Ancients is still one of our favorite games to play. Have you tried Warmaster Revolution, which adds the Ancients rules into the fantasy version?

Big Warmaster fan. I've run a Battle of Five Armies game at Nashcon for a few years now. It's based on the Warmaster system, with adjustments for the Middle-Earth setting.

Warmaster Revolution is indeed very fun.
Fog of war (command phase) allows weak armies to beat stronger armies.
