You were asked – TMP link

How long must someone else's project go unfinished before you regard it as a failure?

Average response: 3.12 years

I've got a painting table full of failures then.

That's usually about half way through the process for me.

Harrumph.
My triremes hung around for 30 years before they hit the table!

I'm just finishing the last 'official' figures for my Napoleonics. Started in 1986.

3 years? I hardly notice that little amount of time passing any more. (Age will do that to you.)

Not really a good one for an "average".

First "Five years or more" is not 5 years to put in the average.

Second there's a clear bimodality in the results.

Third, 5+ was 18% and the seven categories spanning 0-4 only got 23%.

It sometimes takes me 3 years to collect, paint, organize and base figures, collect and/or make terrain and then find a suitable rule set just to get a new period going

What is meant by finished. I'd consider none of my ‘projects' finished even though they have been in use for years. There's always that bit more you want to add.
