Hi all: I am painting Volksgrenadiers for Bulge 1944. It is nice mix of figures both with solely greatcoats but also some with a zeltbahn over the greatcoat. Can you all provide recommendations on colour (ideally Vallejo, non-airbrush) for: -the big Sturmgewehr 44 ammo pouches -Kar 98 ammo pouches -the metal mess tin (not the canteen cup) -the ponches/zeltbhans as well and the full camo shirt/jacket that are worn over the greatcoat. when I google I can see the white on one side but what pattern was common on the non-white side in late 1944 for Volksgrenadiers or non-SS units -what pattern of zeltbahns were likely in use by the Volksgrenadiers? Thanks in advance! -Dan |

Stg44 pouches were made from the same material as MP40 and Gw43 pouches, so green or tan. VJ Russian uniform? Mess tins in Europe were painted RAL6006 ie Field Grey. VJ German Camo Green, possibly lightened a bit. K98 pouches were black leather outside of Luftwaffe units, so black. Army units used standard splinter camo on their Zelts, smocks and jackets, in the main. I suppose you might see some tan and water, but I've not seen a Zelt in that pattern. |
