"Another game of Feudal Patrol-based skirmish. This time it was a raid by a gang of river pirates on a sekisho, or toll gate, garrisoned by a group of ashigaru. Sekisho were set up along trade routes by daimyō wanting to tax trade across lands they control. In Eastern Japan at least, these were often garrisoned by mercenary ashigaru. I'd brought in rules for taking heads, ‘first spear' and making ‘bushi' attack each other where possible, but none of that was really applicable to this kind of fight, so really it wasn't fundamentally different to a Western medieval skirmish. All the changes to the rules were just for my personal preference of how I wanted the game to play. Basically that meant owering the rate of casualties and increasing the morale effects…"
