I may sound like a broken record by now, however, what's with the IDF? Even when I see young women who may not traditionally be considered "attractive," due to body type or whatnot, on the news, I generally think, "what a beautiful woman." There is just something so alluring about a confident woman sauntering (they don't walk, they saunter) down the street with an automatic weapon slung casually over a shoulder.

I do not want to ruin the mood, however, with so many attractive service women around the world, is there any empirical information about how women are treated as prisoners of war? The horrors of war plus distance from loved ones plus the way that women are viewed in some cultures, I fear that it cannot end well.

IDF by a long way….

IDF for me too! I have visited Israel several times (in less difficult times) and have seen plenty of IDF and Border police, but not too many ladies – the feeling I have from them all is best described for me as 'attentive confidence', and they have always been very friendly.

Looks like the Brazilians are getting their money's worth out of those good ol' K98ks.

Ps. The cute-looking ones may present a problem 'on manouevres' – are they carrying the required grenades/ammo/batteries in their webbing – or is there a hair-dryer/cosmetics-bag taking up tactical volume?

The answer is -- Mandatory National Service. At age 18 every young person in Israel must serve in the IDF or other valid National Service. So among ALL young women who are conscripted will be some Gal Gadots!
