I've wanted to play the Punic Wars for years but was just too overwhelmed to do it in 28mm.

The Epic size of the new Warlord minis has me reconsidering this project.

My main question is, if you're using these minis, what are you using for Allied Latin Legions?

The "Allied Italian" minis Warlord makes appear to have round shields instead of Scutum.

So I guess the most historical way to depict them would just be to use the Roman Minis and paint them differently than the Roman Legions?

If you're working with these Warlord minis let me know what you're doing with the Allied Italian units.

Cheers.

Uesugi, my 28mm Punic War figures are mainly Victrix. They do boxes of Rome's Allied Italian Legions. They carry scutum and LBMS do appropriate shield and banner transfers.

I use them. If you are modelling allies fighting in the Roman style (I have so far) then I paint the Roman minis differently. 3 ranks per stand in close order signifies they are fighting manipular.

If I were to be using them fighting in more of a hoplite or phalanx style – then I would use the allied models with their round shields. They are modelled in 2 ranks which signifies they are fighting more conventionally. This might better reflect early allied (or not) Italians?

Historically accurate or not – they are very nice figures and paint up very well.

You could trim off the feathers from the Romans to get something similar to the Etruscans here link

If they ever do Cathaginians in captured armour, they might be suitable.

The round shielded Italians may be intended for Southern Italians like Bruttians.

I'm using the Romans also as allied infantry, just different colours.

Not quite sure what DColtman means by "fighting manipular". No authority on republican Roman formations at this period knows how maniples were used. Allied legions did not fight in a hoplite or phalanx style: They were armed, equipped and arranged in the same manner as Roman units.

Do you want to know about Roman allied Italians, or Carthaginian allied Italians ? I would use Roman shields for the first, round shields or a mixture (in 28mn) for the second.

Try the Old Glory 10mm strips.

Dogwood, I was asking about the Legions allied to the Romans. The Victrix Roman Allies are fantastic but I'm just never going paint that many 28mm's.

So I'll just use the Roman Minis as Latin Allies.

I did NOT recall that OG has 10mm Ancients. I will have a look.

Those really are nice prints Trojan. If I was going to go into a smaller scale these look like a great option.

They are also available in 15mm.
