"After the end of the armistice between the French army and the allied forces in the summer of 1813, the French Marshal Davout and his corps stationed in northern Germany attempted to drive the opposing enemy Wallmoden corps from the Elbe line and block their supply routes via Stralsund through a campaign in Mecklenburg. After several skirmishes and the occupation of Schwerin and Wismar, he and his troops had to retreat back to their starting position behind the Stecknitz in Holstein. At the end of August 1813, the allied Jäger corps, stationed in Dömitz, carried out a successful attack on the town of Damantz on the opposite bank of the Elbe (see link for report)…"
