Back in May, Ukrainian developers revealed a new armed ground robot—the Fury. Four months later, a Fury has fought—and reportedly won—the type's first major skirmish. On or just before Thursday, one of the four-wheeled, shopping-cart-sized Furies assaulted a trench in Russia's Kursk Oblast… Forbes: link |

They're Heeeere … The killer robot has been part of Sci-fi lore by many authors for many years. Once again Sci-Fi becomes Sci-Fact. And it will only continue as tech evolves … |

So was Fury remote controlled or autonomous? |

To be honest, I have never liked Isaac Asimov. I always found his stories to be too preachy. Add to that the names he gave his characters. 😄 This was cemented by running into him at a WorldCon. I was in the huckster's room (for Wargamers, that's a sci-fi flea market/dealer's room 😄) he just about presented his ring to be kissed by his admirers. Bad sideburns too… I did pick up a badly damaged first edition of The Dying Earth, so that made it worth the time. I always thought his Laws of Robotics were flawed from the ground up. They make no sense. But enough of that. They say to never meet your heroes. That doesn't apply here, since I never thought his stories were all that great. |

Remote control or autonomous? I wonder if they can be hacked? |
Legion 4 | 24 Sep 2024 5:07 p.m. PST |
Those systems are supposed to be "hardened" against hacking. But it seems high tech can be hacked by higher tech, etc. |

And in twenty years the warbots will be as superior to this as a Spitfire is to an Eindecker. You can just junk all your notions of sci-fi human troopers – future war will be fought entirely by machines. |

Is that available in 15mm or 28mm? I'm sure printable files will be coming our way soon, as well. future war will be fought entirely by machines Somehow, I have a feeling that that won't reduce overall loss of life. |

If you are a trench defender, and you have time, there easy countermeasures; Put in thick posts close enough together so that it can't drive between; Trap it with snares made from cable; If you've got a lot of time, dig & disguise pit traps it can fall into. C'mon, be a sneaky human and outthink your opponent! ;-) |

Just like putting up obstacles when in the defense. Some obstacles would be similar to those to stop and/or channelize Infantry and/or vehicles. |

Saw a video of the news yesterday. Forget where, but somewhere in the USA. An armed criminal held up in a motel room. After a 2-hour standoff … The LEOs sent in a wheeled robot with a long robotic arm. Albeit it was controlled by one of the LEOs. So, it was not autonomous … The robot fire CS/tear gas thru the window. The "prep" fell out of the door. Coughing, gaging, etc. Then robot ran over him pinning him on the ground so he could not escape. Until SWAT could get to him. I think that is what it is going to happen much more in the near future … |

The Russians have been using similar robots for a long time, and quite successfully… I have already posted a video before. Only the Russians have them working together with "live" stormtroopers, providing them with support directly on the battlefield. There are still few such robots, but their number is growing rapidly. Drones are also used for supplies on the battlefield, for evacuating the wounded. |

Today it was reported that frontline testing of the Russian robotic platform "Courier" has been completed and the first production batch of drones has been sent to the front.
And here's a bit of humor. In Moscow, two delivery robots from different companies came into conflict on the street, deciding which of them should give way))) link |
