I did up a platoon of them and am starting this thread so Deadhead can post pictures I sent off to him. Wait for it,,, pictures and details to come. Also a unit so secret, I wasn't allowed to interview them while I painted them. I also bumped up a couple of threads from the Vietnam Board so Deadhead could find them easier to post pictures to them. If you just look at the main page, watch for the Vietnam Board threads on Mike Force Cambodians, Jarai, CIDG duckhunter and Thai Unity threads too. |

Bit of a wild mix here. Bottom picture first off. Eureka and Empress Miniatures ANZACS done up as ethnic Cambodian Mike Force troops and painted in tiger stripe. The second and fourth figures are actually from Gaddis Gaming/Battle Honors Marine Raiders packs. I have one or to per platoon as leader/advisor figures. I have a complete infantry company of them. More details are under the Mike Force threads. |

Picture 3 is the Parkfield Miniatures in boonie hats. I wanted to try something different so I experimented with and ERDL pattern camouflage. There are two types a brown and a green dominant version. Later on ERDL turned into what we know today as woodland pattern. Since I already did a bunch of 1980s US troops in woodland pattern how hard could it be right? Dirt tan base, camo green spots and then spot over gaps in red-brown. Wow did they turn out darkish. I was hoping to get somewhere near the green based ERDL but it dried and actually seemed accurtae as the brwon based ERDL pattern instead! Happy accidents, so leave well enough alone and be happy about it. Caucasian skin tones and use tham as some odd LRRP or special projects type of group. |

Picture two is actually a platoon of figures from Ironwind Metals, they are the bulk as warlord or druglord fiures but since they are M16 armed and I am covering all the odd ball troops of SE Asia anyway why not have some KMT or troops from the Golden Triangle show up then? Same faded olive uniforms and asian skin tones. Again the too much light really gives a bit more fade than in normal light. I was actually surprised how light a tone the asian skin tones turned out compared to the native american and middle eastern flesh! |

The first picture is the true oddball stanndout. I was on a converting roll and couldn't be stopped when I stumbled over some WW2 Australian Commandos by Asymetric Wargames. So, .303s get cut out and M16s and M203s go in. After my wrong ERDL learning experince I figured that I would try to go for the green based ERDL again. So dirty tan base, sopts of mid green, spots and fill in gaps with a pale green, and then a couple toothpick dots of red-brown. Skin tones are caucasian. The overly bright ready for surgery lighting really gives a near blue tinge, they really do have the pale green overall look and turned out nicely. How am I going to use them??? Not a clue, but I was on a roll doing conversions back then and couldn't stop. Maybe some MAVC secial projects-Library Police type unit? One of the Grrek letter everyone forgets about or something. |

MAVC sounds a bit dodgy in this context. MACV sounds much safer to let in the door. The imagination that went into this work is just inspiring. Everyone did US Army or Marines, VC or NVA but, traditionally that was it. Then we started to see ANZACs and, very late in the day, a major contributor to the war overlooked, the ARVN. Adding the Special Forces (and not just Green Berets and SEALs) is terrific |
