We (OWS) will be running Borodino as a demo/participation game at the "Colours" show next Saturday. Colours is always good fun and it would be great to meet some fellow TMPers there.

I'm sharing this with the Napoleonics board in particular because it seems there will be several other Napoleonics games on display: Salamanca 1812; Anglo-Ottoman War 1809; and a General d'Armee game. Full list here.

Typical. I have to miss 'Colours' for the first time in years and there's several Napoleonic games!

Hopefully one of the attendees will post a shedload of photos of the Salamanca game.

What rules will you be using, Chris?

ChrisBBB2 Supporting Member of TMP11 Sep 2024 1:51 p.m. PST

Thanks for asking, Jeffers. Our Borodino game will use the "Bloody Big BATTLES!" rules. The scenario is from Dr Mark Smith's newly published scenario book, "Napoleon's Bloody Big BATTLES!" – see here:

As for the other games, I believe:
the Salamanca game will use Black Powder;
Anglo-Ottoman – no rules specified;
GdA is being run by rules designer Dave Brown himself and I learned today will also be set at Borodino! But this will be a scenario focused on the Attack on the Grand Redoubt.

Hopefully BBB's "zoomed-out" approach and GdA's more "zoomed-in" version will complement each other and make a nice talking point.

Cheers, Chris. My next question is:

What did Keir Starmer's dad do?

ChrisBBB2 Supporting Member of TMP12 Sep 2024 4:35 a.m. PST

Har-de-har. I know there are people who get understandably bored of hearing me mention a certain ruleset, which is why I didn't do so at all in the OP.

🤣 If I get permission to go I'll stop by.

I hereby grant you permission. ;-)

Please do stop by and take the mick in person!

"What did Keir Starmer's dad do?"

I believe he made…..tools.

Not able to go in the end, but hope it went well for you and everybody else who put on a game.

Yes, it was a great day at a well-run and well-attended show, thanks, Jeffers. On my feet for seven hours talking myself hoarse chatting to all the good folks who stopped by our table, while the battle of Borodino unfolded before our eyes, culminating in the traditional nailbiting last turn with all three results possible, the final dice producing an honourable draw. Sorry you missed it!

And now I have written up my show report here:

Well done, especially for turning someone from the dark side… What annoyed me most was that it was a fabulous sunny day too, which is how I always remember Colours.
