A friend of mine is looking for skirmish rules for Vietnam.

Irish, define skirmish. Man to man or would you settle for fire teams? For the latter I like force on force as you may know.

I guess my friend is talking man to man. I tried to get him to like FOF but no go.

Easy to convert SPI Grunt or Search and Destroy to fast play skirmish. The later Cityfight would be more complicated.
We did a skirmish to fireteam level Vietnam in the 1990s titled Grunts, Leathernecks and Charlie.

Another recommendation for FNG.

I am not a big fan of the current version, and I don't know if the earlier addition is still available or not.

RAFM's Charlie Company really rocks from what I've heard.

It's dirt cheap at about $11. USD

Look at John Lambshead's One Hour Skirmish rules. The Facebook group actually has a pretty good set of modifications for Nam.

+1 to that

Spectre Operations (old edition, new system has come out under this name but I haven't played it). Represents the scale you want. Focuses on irregular wars between professional militaries and guerilla forces. Has a free PDF expansion for jungle warfare, tunnels, and booby traps. Has rules for partnering forces of you want South Vietnamese or Montagnard or Hmong forces paired up with advisors. Good rules. Have done Vietnam with them and it goes well.

Irish, too bad about FoF. I like the initiative and asymmetrical dice. Can't help too much w man to man. Saw Sangin played at a convention once; looked interesting and spectre ops looks good from what I have read. Smith seems to like it. )
Good luck!

Took a few minutes but I found a copy in my vintage rule box. The name was Operation Nam by JW Brown. Rules for squad and platoon combat. Date 1992.

We use Force on Force- both 28mm and 15mm. Works swimingly. Just played a large game in 15mm last week- Piles of NVA vs a U.S. firbase. 8 players. Worked well.
