Hi guys

These aren't finished yet, the first sets for my "nostalgia project" 1 pose from the Airfix and Esci Japanese sets, need to do some highlights and more work on the bases, but they are well on the way.

Very nicely done. A lot of detail on those 1/72 figures

I had a set of the Airfix ones way back in the 1970s. I don't remember mine looking anywhere near as fine as these do.

Cheers!

I was just about to make the same comment. The basing helps, the painting of detail transforms them, but is it actually possible to "Digitally enhance" them? They seem much sharper than even the very early original castings that I recall.

Very nice.

I think the wash has helped pick out the detail.

Best wishes,

Chris

It looks like Airfix brought out a replacement set of Japanese figures, as they did for so many of their old boxes.

I like the bases and may have to try to convince somebody in my group to make some.

The Airfix set is the same as back in the 70s when I first got them, the Esci set has better detail, as can be seen, they are still pretty nice.

The Airfix 54mm Japanese are very nice and paint up easy due to all the raised detail on the figs.

The Airfix Japanese set was always one of the best sculpted and moulded 20mm sets. Never seen the 54mm version.

Wow – now those painted up amazingly!

Unlike the American Marines and German infantry, Airfix didn't scale down the 1/32 Japanese figures to 1/76 with one exception. The lying LMG gunner wasn't in the original 1/76 set but one appeared after a couple of years. I think I have seen copies of the 1/32 figures in 1/72 made by Far Eastern manufacturers but not Airfix. Here's a link to the 1/32 set.

The Matchbox set is considered to be one of the best 1/76 sets ever made and is very good with a wide range of figures. An oddity is the number of left handed figures.
