…After several fits and starts, a $230 USD million pier is up and running again. The U.S. military invited reporters for a tour of it on Tuesday, marking the first time international media has witnessed its operations firsthand…

At least its useful for something, i.e a photo opportunity.

What a gigantic waste of money!

A segment on the pier was on ABC news last night. Nothing unexpected.

If the US military was relying on it to use during a real conflict, the test was worthwhile. To bad the test results was a fail.

So the US has spent $230 USD million on an operation to help save the people of Gaza – the people who voted for Hamas, the people who hide Hamas, the people who burn American flags, the people that celebrated 9/11 with dancing in the streets, the people that opted for war with Israel and now dont like the consequences of war.

My question is where are their Muslim brothers and sisters, why isn't Saudi Arabia building and running the pier? Why isn't Turkey there, or Qatar, or Iran or Egypt, or Kuwait or the Gulf States? If China is so concerned for world peace why aren't they there? Or the Russians? If Hezbollah is so well organised and funded why aren't they succouring their Palestinian brothers in Gaza instead of firing rockets into northern Israel?

Why is it always western nations that have to donate and help and save the poor and starving? Why do we always have to pour out our blood and treasure in these situations? To help people who dont like us and dont agree with us and despise our democracy and free speech and tolerance!

Nsoloman99 all good points.

Could add:
Why isn't George Soros spending millions over there saving them? Seems like the type of effort that should be right up his alley.

Why don't the pro-Hamas protestors voluntarily go over there on their own dime and supply humanitarian aid to the oppressed Palestinians? Wouldn't that be more productive than rioting and vandalizing. I'm sure some of the pro-Hamas in our government, could help and organize and lead the effort.

Why is it always western nations that have to donate and help and save the poor and starving?

Because it's the right thing to do?

korsun0 Supporting Member of TMP27 Jun 2024 9:07 p.m. PST

It might be the humane thing to do, but that doesn't make it right.

Agreed … Some say by not sending food, medical, etc. to these in many cases 3d World, failed or failing nations. It would be racist, xenophobic, anti- _________ [fill in the blank] not to help.

By some reports, intel, etc. released many years later. Those in the WH/DC, etc. did not want to be considered "racist" as they are ignoring starving black & brown people. It was more of a political choice. More about optics, as usual. Sound familiar ?

E.g. Somalia, the West[some would the Whites from the West] were sending food etc. to poor black & brown people. But that failing nation was in civil war, so to speak. With various factions vying of power. Many stealing the food etc. and it was not getting to the starving masses. Hmmm … like in Gaza ?

Just like some saying it is humane to have an open border. We have to save these poor people from in many cases failed and failing nations leaders, insurgents, "freedom fighters", etc. ? . But how much $ does US give many of these nations every year?

They say think about the starving children, in some cases repeatedly… These oppressed people come to get jobs so they can feed their poor family. That is their crusade, their mission, etc. Again, it's more about optics than the cold reality of this bad situation. And not only in the US, but much of Western Europe.

Sure, we should in many cases send some food, meds, etc., help these people as we are not without empathy, etc. But it seems in many places they'd rather have support sent. Have is catered. Than get organized, start being a nation. But yes civil wars will happen. As they are fighting among themselves. While many starve …

Follow the power/money trail ! Sorry but I'm very conservative and don't much trust the world leadership, not to mention our own ! <sigh>

Nine pound round02 Jul 2024 4:10 a.m. PST

Because a lot of the leaders who pledge that blood and treasure don't like or agree with you, and despise your democracy and free speech and tolerance, too.

Wolf, never apologize for being a conservative. 😉

I don't know there is really one answer to that question. Economics, resources, allies, treaties, alliances, attempts at a one world government, our politicians think we are the worlds policeman, revenge, we are just nice people? I think it varies we the administration.

"Strategic Kindness" is a concept well-known to Australian foreign policy.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP02 Jul 2024 8:06 a.m. PST

Follow the money is the best answer, IMO. I remember in the 90s it was said that the US was 6 %of the world's population using 46% of the world's resources. The US economy is a dominant force in the world.

Everyday people in the US are not represented well by wealthy government elected and appointed officials. I disagree that these despise anyone. Worse, they don't care. Mostly apolitical, just focused on power/money. They tell us what we want to hear, rile us up and mislead us all the way to the bank. Theirs. Progressives do not progress, conservatives do not conserve, except where policies and inside knowledge benefit them. This too often drives actual strategic policies, not sound bite crumbs from politicians to their constituents.
