Another great place to go to is samurai-archives.com. They have images of banners and also the mon/family crests for about 60 some samurai families. I recommend it. |

Some bit of warning. Some of these sites have mistakes. link The Yamanouchi and Chousokabe in the above link should be the opposite. The correct and complete heraldry of Yamanouchi or Yamauchi can be found here: link I've tried not only to complete sets but identify the owners with some brief bio and combat data, info to help others research the individuals or clans further. Many of the flags below are not identified whether they are nobori, uma-jirushi or sashimono: link The color of many of the flags in the above link are not correct. From page 58-59 of Turnbull's 'Samurai Warriors': I have not been able to confirm if the Nozokito or Oishi exist. The white Uesugi retainer sashimono has a black dot at the bottom, inspired by artwork on page 43 of Turnbull's 'Samurai Warlords'. The black dot is actually a bullet hole in the Turnbull artwork. Uesugi flags can be found here: ( Some Takeda generals are scattered throughout the same thread). link The Samurai Heraldry gallery at the Samurai Forums are updated (sets are expanded, corrected or removed) when necessary. |

EValerio, you're a wonderful asset for samurai enthusiasts. I've used your references so many times I've lost count. Thanks for doing the work you do!!! |
