When using a GPS to travel, how do you like to see the map? North Up: the car arrow may rotate but the map is fixed Track Up: the entire map rotates as you turn so you always appear to travel "up" |

Whatever the default setting on Google maps, and TomTom before that, is. It isnt even something I've thought about. |

It isnt even something I've thought about. This is what happens when you get bored traveling to Little Wars 🤪 |

Track up. That way I know whether I have an upcoming turn right, or left, at a glance. This allows me to make certain I am in the correct lane before I need to make the turn/exit, long before I reach it -- I spend less time analyzing the GPS screen and more time with my eyes on the road. I don't care which direction is North, I can tell that by the Sun, if I care, and if it is shining. At night, I could not care less about North, I just want to reach my destination to relax and sleep. Cheers! |

I recently read an article, which I can't find now, that said people are losing there sense of orientation. Using an app for directions or using an online map that you can adjust changes the way we see things. The article suggested switching to North Up. There is plenty of article to debate this. I visit a daughter in another city and although I can get around I never know where certain places are in relation to each other or which way is North, It's cloudy often and dark or always sunny. I finally bought a paper map and this has improved my ability to navigate and judge distances and time. |

Map-reading: North-up or get a slap-on-the-wrist. Idiot-In-Car-GPS: Track up. Also – forget about mirror-signal-manoeuvre when instructed to change lanes(*). (*) Almost got caught twice by this on a gyratory on two different mornings. Both times completely random lane-changes. No head movement, no indicators, no nuffink. Yielded to both heedless motorists and saw the tell-tale bright-blue screen on dashboard/stuck to windscreen (US: windshield).
