I think those two pictures really tell the whole story – Dungeon Adventure will let you spend ~£800 and you'll have 80 portions of an adventure, a huge campaign, and as dice seem to be their main "Eye candy freebie" a really big bag of dice. But consider how many complete adventure campaigns you could get for the same money right now rather than a week by week drip feed for 2 years.

And the GW partworks – usually a great Part 1 and Part 2 offer to tempt you in and thereafter a sprue of figures generally at 20-40% below retail price, or paints that work out around 60% or thereabouts of retail price depending on paint type and whether they throw in a brush etc.

For me the D&D partwork is a huge missed opportunity, whilst the GW partwork can actually be a decent way for a complete new starter to get going and for "old hands" a cheap way to get figures if you pick ad choose the issues you purchase.

I don't know what WOTC were thinking.
