I agree with a lot of what you have to say about the rules. While we've had fun with a few scenarios, those who really know what their special abilities can do usually demolish those who are just playing it because that's the group game for the night. Also, at times the factions seem so generic that if someone had told me that we just played Carthaginians vs. Teutonic Knights I would have believed them, mainly because you just focus on your dice and abilities that you're using each turn.

I agree with you both so count me in too. Plus it's well designed for tournament play and that's not my preferred type of gaming.

It has a pretty good regional following around here. I've played a few games and I don't care for it. I just think it's gimicky. It does have a lot of people playing Ancients, and it has helped sell a lot of toy soldiers.

I would have rated it a 12. Played last night with 6 players each with 6pts. The game was long because 4 of the players had limited experience with SAGA. Everyone had a great time.

It is a Saga not historical.

OSCS74, was that at ODMS. If so, I was also playing that game haha

I really like saga. Then again I only play in very. Friendly games so have never been crushed or crushed someone with special abilities. A couple of abilities are indeed gimmicky but the more I have played and read about the ancient period the less gimmicky I tend to think it is.
Every game is fun and seems to come down to the last one or two turns.
