A few pictures of my Marder 1A3's, The Shipyards ones printed on my Prusa at 0.2 mm layer height vs the Revel kits. In the thread:- TMP link I bewailed the cost of these dreadfull Revle kits and instead got a re-scaled STL from AOTRS Shipyards for £15.00 GBP and printed my own. The middle one is the Revell kit the other two my new ones. Note the Revel Kit has a pin for the gun Barrel, the scale one was too fragile. We had a debate about the barrel on the Shipyards model. I wanted a bit thinner but Alex said smaller and it would be too fragile. Chatting at the club over these, before their first game, the consensus was the over scale gun was a good compromise for strength. What do you think? link link Note;- the Milan is removable and of course the turret features the turret lock so is unlikely to fall off accidentally. If anybody else wants the STL at 1/72 contact AOTRS Shipyards on MY Mini Factory or Facebook as the 1/72 version will not be up for a bit but he will make an exception for TMP folk. Foe those folk without a Printer prints will available at some point. |

UshCha, While your prints do not look at crisp as the Revel kit, they are fine for the game table. That barrel is huge, but I under stand the need and could live with it. Thanks for sharing this! |

I'd say they're fine. Personally I might be tempted to see whether I could source a suitable turned brass barrel or failing that wire again. Comprising on barrel-scale isn't exactly a new thing and will probably remain one for a while yet. Would only really be an issue on the table IMO if it could potentially result in confusion about vehicle type but I don't think anyone's ever tried to mount a 50mm or more gun on a Marder! |

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa I discussed this with the designer, the issue is the gun and its mounting are at a sensible size fo the gun. Dropping the gun would mean dropping the mantle size to be in scale. This would then make it too thin (minimum wall thickness is 1mm ty[pically even for a decent resin print) so the barrel would be smaller and stonger but at the cost of too fragile a mantlet. Hence it is what it is. |
