I have always been a huge fan of Wooden Ships and Iron Men. I have not played it in years and when I saw the Black Seas game with the miniatures I thought I would give it a go. It is not a bad game but it lacks the detail of Wooden Ships and Iron Men. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried to combine the rules? I like the miniatures but not sure haw best to use them with Wooden Ships and Iron Men. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you like the WS&IM rules, get a hex cloth and use "Wooden Ships" with the Black Seas miniatures. I played tons of WS&IM with ship models back in the day.

I also have the expansion (or supplement) Ship O the Line which adds detail including some to allow smaller ships (I want to do Great Lakes battles).

I used the original gameboard with miniature ships. Don't have the Black Seas ships so don't know if they would fit.

With the size of the ship models I would need something with pretty big hexes. Not sure where I might find that. I am wondering if I would be able to use the movement procedures from Black Seas and everything else from Wooden Ships and Iron Men?

You'd probably need a 4" hex mat and a big table….
