My club, probably quite typical, revolves heavily around GW and historical's don't get much of a look in but someone's expressed an interest in BA. I do play WWII but BA isn't a rules set I've played (Battlegroup is more my thing personally) though I do have a couple of copies of the Konflict 47 rule book floating around the house. So I'm thinking to run a game.

Any advice on the points and force composition for a small game for 2 hours-ish play by beginners? The lists in Konflict look okay-ish for late WWII with the Weird elements dropped. I've got Germans, Americans and Soviet forces to hand.

Also any thoughts on using 15mm figures for BA? I've seen people do it and the bulk of my 15mm collection is a second hand collection based for BA!

Greetings. I'm not the most experienced BA player, but my experience pertains to you. All I have is the Pacific Starter set for BA. In my opinion the number of forces in it are what you need for a 2 player,2 hour game. I'm not saying you have to buy one, just check out the figures and equipment in them and there you go.

And why not 15mm? If you aren't a Tournament player 15mm will work just fine…..

I suspect a 15mm game would look more convincing than 28mm – for me that's certainly the case with Chain of Command. I'd keep everything else the same.
But then I think 28mm Second World War is a spawn of the devil.

20mm or 1/72 also works fine, Vehicles are cheap and plentiful.

For a learning game, I would say leader, MG, mortar and 2 squads with light vehicle

For 15mm, "centimeter BA" could be fun.

Do it in 15mm but do NOT change the measurements. Looks 1000x better.

Going down in scale but keeping the rules the same is way better! My group started in 28mm. Quickly shifted down to 20mm and it felt and looked a lot better. Solid set of rules but 28mm just is too big for the size of the battle.

Excellent, thanks for the suggestions.

I have played many games of BA over the years. It works in both 15mm and 28mm. I personally prefer 28mm.since the size of most forces are around a platoon on each side. The game is best when you start with a small platoon , say three squads, a couple of support options, say a mortar and medium MG, and a armored car or light tank on each side. The rules in Konflict 47 are a little different then the bolt action rules. They are not interchangeable. Konflict 47 came out between version one and version two of BA. Call it BA 1.5.

Ah, rules creep, thanks.
