I was brow-beating a friend of mine to get him to run a game at a local con. He agreed but the deal was that I have to build a model of the Death Star trench as part of the game. The three week deadline makes this a tight schedule but I'm all-in with this project. link

Hardly canon, but it is starting to look the part

looking good so far, hope you can keep your deadline

That is awesome. I can just hear the greyfaces asking where you're going to store it. Should be a blast. Needless to say, we will want more pictures as the work progresses!

Thanks for the kind comments guys,

Andrew Walters, the whole build will be inside a custom-built crate 4'x2'x1' so storage shouldn't be too bad (besides this is a commission job so it won't be at my place anyways). I have the build completed now, I "just" need to paint it and crate it up. More here; link

Having watched the trench-run sequence about a dozen times now it struck that the interior of the trench was very dark. With that in mind I tried painting a couple of small section flat black. Now that I'm looking at it the whole thing just seems to dark. Thoughts, ideas…..somebody with a Graphic Arts Degree? Help

Changed my mind and painted it all black again, now I'm trying a flat white azimuthal spray.

Very nice. I wouldn't even attempt something like that.

A couple of extra coats of white this morning (and I finished painting the floor) gave me this.

Then I couldn't resist a little photo-editing

It should probably curve downwards in the distance…?

Anton Ryzbak07 Sep 2023 8:26 a.m. PST

I should, but that was maxing-out my photo retouching skills. My talents (such as they are) lie in the physical world.

Depends on the circumference of the Death Star at the area of the trench. The curvature of a significantly large enough sphere will not be evident near the surface of the sphere.

Nice work, by the way. Are you using the FFG X-Wing rules?

Anton Ryzbak10 Sep 2023 9:28 a.m. PST

Parzival, Yes we are using X-Wing models and rules

We ran a play-test of the scenario, it turned out rather well! link
