This is a very early paleo-novel by Belgian writers J. H. Rosny published in 1892. It deals with the adventures of the titular hero, a western nomad, , that travels by canoe into Asia along a vast river where after being struck by a young woman's beauty, he abducts her and flees back to Europe pursued by her vengeful tribe. The setting is Upper Paleolithic due to the use of canoes and archery. Though there is a dinosaur on the cover, none make an appearance.The fauna encountered is all characteristic of the Pleistocene setting. The novel is not over long and the action is decent. |
