I have figures sufficient for 12 units of Dutch infantry for the WSS; entirely based on the colourfulness/unusualness of the uniforms which units should I pick?

You'll be hard pushed to find 12 units which are not in grey but grey is fine when its well painted.

Foot guards in Blue, several regiments in red and even those in grey often had officers, sergeants and musicians in coloured coats. The Hall book/CD shows details, but rather expensive.
I'll try and look through my copy and see if there are any particularly interesting uniforms.

Most regiments were in grey with coloured cuffs or variously coloured hose and waistcoats; however, several had red coats, blue coats and white coats.

Thanks very much all, very useful, I appreciate it.

@Steamingdave2, that would be very kind, thanks.

Not quite the same question, but would be quite interested in knowing what the uniforms for some of the Walloon and Huguenot regiments might be.

OK. Sorry for delay, Father's Day and had my daughter and grandsons here (with a nice bottle of Talisker,), so only just got to the files.
Found the following. Foot Guards blue, with red facings ( were orange earlier)
Swansbek/Palm blue, yellow facings
Savorin red, blue facings
Fagel red, yellow facings
Van Els red , white facings
Holstein Beck red, blue facings
Keurprinz Van brandenburg Preussen blue, red facings,
Francois de Vigouse Blue, red facings ( musicians in mid green with red facings
Some of the Scot's brigade seemed to have retained red coats eg Borthwick's and Lauder'syellow facings
Several Swiss regiments in Dutch service were in blue coats, usually with red facings but different colours of breeches
Lot of the above from Hall.
C S Grant (Armies and Uniforms of Marlborough's Wars, Vol 1)
Gives some others eg Van Keppel, red and yellow,
Van Welderen blue, faced blue

In some cases information is given specifically for the 1702 to 1720 period. There seems to be more for the late 1600s I.e at end of War of League of Augsburg and some of those uniforms may have been retained in early years of the WSS, but most regiments do seem to be in " white", "Pearl grey", "grey" during WSS.

I did a couple of the Hanover regiments for mine. De Luc in white with green facings and St Paul in red with yellow facings and yellow waistcoats
Will see what I have in Walloon regiments, got a couple of books that may have info.,

Kronskaf has this on French Walloon regiments.

And there was this TMP thread of Dutch Walloon

Guard of Liege, probably blue, with yellow cuffs
Trognee/Delouperche/Spaen blue, faced red, drummer red faced and laced white
Jaymaert/Lynden blue, faced red.

Thanks, that is very kind. And pleased you are having a nice Father's Day! I have COVID at the moment, so the closest I have been to my bairns today is to wave at them down the stairs (the eldest is doing exams and I am trying desperately not to pass it on)…

If I start to feel a bit better, I will try and slap the first bits of paint on to try and take my mind off things…

@ whirlwind
Pleased to help. Hope the blasted virus leaves you pretty soon; a reminder that we are not out of it yet.
I see you are a Notts lad; so am I, but left many years ago and back in ancestral land. Used to be in Mansfield wargames club back in the.1980s

Thanks, appreciate it.

I am hoping to get to the Mansfield club (Forest Outlaws) soon – they seem a nice bunch and as soon as life settles a tiny bit, I will get up there.

I am late to this conversation but do have a question. Regarding the Dutch and French "grey/gray" uniforms = which nationality's "grey/gray" would be lighter. I did some French in a light grey only to look at uniform plates afterward. The Dutch appear to be a pale grey compared to the French.

Does anyone have an informed opinion versus my guess?
