Hello everyone: Are there any good books describing, at a super-tactical level how actual procedures on a cold war/modern naval surface vessel work? I'm thinking at the level of "and then the fire control guy in the Arleigh Burke CIC loads the navigation profile into the missile, then he presses this button, 10 seconds later the VLS doors open, etc. Barring that, any techncially accurate "Cold War Hot" novels that cover this topic, at least, beyond Red Storm Rising? |

I have to think getting a copy of the GDW Harpoon table top game rules might not be a bad way to start. |

For naval Cold War gone hot, look for novels by Charles D. Taylor like "First Salvo", "Choke Point" and "Show of Force". |

Fiction… some weapons sustems have not existed! Just enjoyed the trilogy by John Wingate from back in early 80s. 'Submarine'. 'Frigate' 'Carrier'. Recently was lucky to get hardback books… paperbacks probably disintegrating by now! |

Someone should mention Tom Clancy in this discussion. |

I doubt you will find anything that detailed, excepting perhaps signing up for the USN, and then having to study their procedural manuals. Harpoon rules come close, with various die rolls for weather, sea state, detection, etc., etc. |
