Returning to 1:300 micro armour for the third time. So far so good I think… Will probably give a little dust of weathering powders just to finish off and maybe put an aerial on the company command vehicle.

Couple of questions, unit markings in 1:300 yes, no? Googled for decals but could only find WWII Soviet stars.

I'm also going to need some dismounts. I owned some Mainforce WWII Germans a long time ago. Nice but from memory seemed a little on the large side being 1:285. Any other recommendations? I've never been that keen H&Rs own figures at least the older ones.

The new H&R figures are very good – they have redone a lot of the infantry ranges. The new figures are slightly larger than their old figures and the details are way better. The new Soviet modern stuff will work well for you is my bet.

Decals you will not find much for Modern Soviets apart from stars (and maybe some Russian numbers). I find decals a real pain to apply in 1/300 but they do look nice when done.

I would use either GHQ german decals or these ones.

The new H&R figures are much better than the old style.

For decals I would go for Flight Deck decals. He does post to the UK

Hey, are your bases from the Dollarama here in Canada?

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa24 Mar 2023 9:08 a.m. PST

Thanks for the suggestions. May give flight deck a try.

@OldYeller
mdf from Warbases in the here UK.

Anyone got any pics of the new H&R or just know when they were released? Plenty of pictures on the internet – just not 100% which are the newer sculpts.

I debated this when painting up my micro armor: link

I ended up just going with unit numbers on some of the APCs. I purchased stars but didn't end up applying them because I couldn't find suitable surface space for where they should be.

I use the same size of hex bases for my micro armour – are made of wood – can gets packs of 100 for $1.50 USD per pack from Dollarama here in Canada. Also come in square and circle shapes. Cheap bases if you live in Canada, except where I live, because I have cleaned out every Dollarama in my city LOL.

I did find unit numbers on tanks don't work too well compared to apcs. The number gets only so small and the turrets don't have enough surface for them.

There are some un-painted figures at the end of this set of pictures The packs of infantry are now 10 strips of infantry with no command or LMG figures.

Nice stuff. I just finished a BTR-60 company with another company of T-62As. I didn't choose to apply any particular markings.

I was also thinking about dismounts. I'm not sure if I want to go with GHQ or H&R or Mainforce.

Nice basing.

No longer WiP…

The Flight Deck numbers have worked out well, good service from the States, though pretty fiddly. I think it took me longer to put them on than paint the vehicle. Shame the numbers aren't completely sequential but neither are they particularly legible beyond a few cm. Its more for the overall look.

And so the project grows…

A mix of my own and some touched up and rebased second-hand vehicles.

Looking good, ROU! I concur that Flight Deck is your best source for Cold War/Modern Russian tactical numbers. They just came out with WWII numbers that might work as well.

I-94 Enterprises is another possible source for decals. They do WWII Russian tactical numbers but no Cold War/Modern ones as yet.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa10 Jul 2023 11:52 a.m. PST

Thanks.

I got two set of Flight Deck numbers one is fine, solid tactical numbers, the other, white outline, is frankly horrible. They seem to frost terribly. Might be be my varnish but I don't see why the two should react so differently…. Doing a company was fine more than that and they are definitely a bit wearing to apply.

I'd also definitely recommend toothbrush aerials (thx to whoever mentioned it) over fine wire… The second hand ones use fine wire and I stabbed myself while unpacking them and its continued from there on.
